New Digs in TKO

After two trips into Tokyo, I finally found an apartment. Rent is less than Manhattan, but not by much. The part of Tokyo I'm in, called Mitaka-shi, is actually about 20 mins from the center of the city by train. Therefore, it is considerably more residential and rural. It is still Tokyo, meaning the roads are about as wide as they were in the Edo Period! I'm thinking it might be safer NOT to get a bike- a car or even scooter would be safer because you would have the right of way (I know, it's screwed up).

There is an amazing Buddhist temple in front of Musahisaka Station (which is the closest station to our apartment). They do Zen meditation daily and I might look into that- I haven't done Zen for years and really miss it. I posted a pic of the temple above.

Hey you guys - I've been thinking about you lately since I hadn't heard peep. Now I know why - wow - big changes! Congratulations for landing a job ICU. I am not so secretly hoping you'll check out DeAnza College (our Chancellor will be joining the Obama team as the Under Secretary of Edu) and come back to Calif. It's a fabulous campus and amazing bunch of people to work with. Sorry - I'm being selfish - I just want to see you back in Califorina! However, until you return, I wish you both the best in Japan. You know Kana is Takao - Mitaka isn't far, right? Your commentary about NY and piling into the taxi was indeed bittersweet. I'm sure you are welcomed 'home' to Japan with lots of love. I'm curious to see how things go for you there and what it's like now. Best to you both. jp xox PS in the course of trying to post this comment, I now have a blog too, JanellStory - stay tuned. how did that happen??

The Temple looks awesome...gotta get those legs limbered up. I think I still have a limp from sitting in that position for so long that day.

Send pix of Buddah for Maddy.

Love the blog!!
